Make sure you determine the dimensions of your mattress before you start build your bed. Usually a standard twin sized mattress measure 38 inches wide by 76 inches long and are about 8 inches thick.

To build your bed, you need to follow these simple step:

  • Plywood piece
  • 2×6 lumber
  • 4 x 4 boards
  • lag bolts

1. Place a twin mattress on the floor or work area as a guide.

2. The loft portion of the bed is going to consist of a simple rectangle box made from the 2×6 lumber.

Once check that the mattress you are going to use measures 38 x 76 inches you should to cut two of the 2×6′s to a length of 78 inches. Cut the remaining 2×6 into two pieces that measure 37 inches long.

Once connected the 2×6′s to one another at each corner(Use three 3 inch long drywall screwsfor this) you end up to build a box that fits the mattress, that measures 40 inches by 78 inches. Use a piece of plywood covering it and forming the base of the box.

Now, choose a height for the loft. Cut 4 x 4 boards to make posts that will hold the loft bed in the air. Set the posts in the position they will occupy under the bed box. Calls a few people to help you   to lift the box and set it on top of the 4 x 4s.

Last but not least, create a ladder for the loft bed. Keep the slope at 60 degrees, and place each slat 10 inches to one foot apart.

Attach the ladder to the loft bed with screws to make sure that the ladder will not disconnect from the bed.

That it!
